I do not as a rule write poetry, but this came to me as I was drifting off to sleep the other night.
The Space between You and Me
The cat steps quietly on the bed
circles us twice
stops by my head
and stares covetously at
the space between you and me.

i like this. this is my favorite version of Respectful Cat Behavior. usually i get the other kind - paw in the mouth "lift the covers so i can burrow now". and then there's the ever so popular Two Cats Subtly Pushing Head Off Pillow. i hope you'll feel inspired to write a poem about that some day.

Our cat is pretty polite, but he does tend to sit on the pillow and push your head off from time to time.
Worst thing ever: last night he was hovering over my head, and he drooled into my eye.
He's getting old, he can't help it, but it was still gross.
